Zan’s Garden of Life.

“Zan’s Garden of Life”, located in the Brennan Courtyard, has been created in memory of Alexandra. Zan’s Garden is also a tribute to the many individuals and families who have given the gift of life through their generous organ and tissue donation at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

The focal point of the garden is a statue of a young girl. This artwork is both solemn and graceful in that it represents the tragic loss of life, and depiction of the noble act of organ donation. The girl holds one butterfly, symbolizing the lives Zan saved, and from the other hand releases several butterflies, a symbol of new life made possible by all the organ donors represented in the garden.

Each day, 15 to 17 Americans die because there are not enough organ and tissue donors. It is our hope that the beauty and serenity of Zan's garden will inspire visitors to help reduce this number by considering the gift of organ donation.
